Interstate 90 runs through Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, and each year there are hundreds of serious crashes between both cities, and many of them involve significant personal injuries and fatalities. When three or more people are injured, it changes all phases of the accident from first repsponders to personal injury claims.
Multiple Victims Injured in I-90 Crash near Kingston
Idaho State Troopers responded to a multiple-injury crash on I-90 Friday, January 10, 2020 at mile post 42 which is about 35 miles west of Coeur d’Alene. Four cars had collided injuring multiple people. At present, ISP hasn’t determined the cause of the crash nor is there any word on the victims’ condition.
All those injured taken to local hospitals for treatment. The investigation is still ongoing, and no charges have been filed as of yet.
Multiple- Car Crashes
When three or more cars are involved in an accident that results multiple injuries, first repsonders have a difficult job when arriving on the scene. They have to secure the scene and assess which victims required immediate need. Sometimes this is difficult because someone might need to be extricated from a vehicle while another needs immediate medical attention.
Injuries Common to Multiple-Car Crashes
When several cars tangle up on the freeway, the risk of injury increases because of the possibility of multiple impacts. Freeways or divided highway are unique in that with several lanes, cars can travel at high speeds with only a few feet between each car.
Accidents can be serious, and first responders have noticed certain common injuries from multiple-car crashes.
- Blunt Force Trauma
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Broken Arms/Legs
- Broken/Displaced Ribs
- Chest Compression
- Organ Damage
- Internal Injuries/Bleeding
- Air bag injuries
Liability in Multiple-Car/Victim Crashes
There are several issues that come up when there are more than a couple of cars and a few injured. First is that each driver and injured occupant might have their own attorney, and there might be several insurance companies involved. This leaves any unrepresented victim at a great disadvantage.
Each insurance company involved will attempt to place the blame away from their insured, and anyone that they have to cover, they are going to try to diminish their injuries and losses. This can be confusing as the law requires each injured victim prove which driver injured them and prove that the driver was negligent. To do this in multiple-car and multiple-injury crashes, the victim needs to have their own attorney representing their claim.
