Every car accident has its own unique circumstances and results, but there are some types of car accidents in Spokane that could leave you more injured than others. None more so than a head-on collision.
Two people were injured in an early morning head-on collision on US-395 in Deer Park on Monday, February 12, 2024. According to the story from KHQ, Washington State Patrol (WSP) responded to a call of a head-on collision in the northbound lanes of US-395 near Denison Chattaroy Road. According to WSP investigators, there was a car going too fast for the road conditions in the northbound lane, which then lost control and slid across the center line, colliding with a car heading south. The resulting collision left both drivers injured and shut down that section of 395 for several hours. The driver that crossed the centerline was cited for their negligence.
Steps to Follow After a Head-on Collision
In the aftermath of any head-on car collision, especially one like the story above, it’s common to feel disoriented and shaken. At the same time, it’s very important that you take certain steps to protect your health and potential claim:
- Safety and medical care – Your immediate concern should be your safety and well-being. Even if you initially feel fine due to adrenaline, it’s crucial to seek medical attention as soon as possible, either on scene or at an emergency room or urgent care. Delaying medical care could potentially be used against you by insurance companies when evaluating your injuries.
- Call the police to report the accident – Depending on the location of the collision, you may need to call the Washington State Patrol, Idaho State Patrol, or the local police or sheriff’s department. Once they arrive, they’ll document the incident in an official report. While this report isn’t admissible as evidence in a lawsuit, it contains vital information for your claim.
- Start gathering information – Once you’re safe, authorities have been notified, and you’ve received medical attention, begin collecting details about the accident. Take photographs and videos of your vehicle and any injuries sustained. If you are uncomfortable obtaining information from the other driver, you can request assistance from the police.
