One Killed, One Severely Injured in North Argonne Road Head-on Collision

April 15, 2024

A car accident can happen to you in Spokane almost anywhere. Typically, though, the more crowded the area, the more likely an accident is. That doesn’t mean that you can avoid accidents in less crowded areas, though. In fact, sometimes accidents there are more serious.

A woman was killed and a man suffered severe injuries in a head-on collision on Friday, April 12, 2024 according to a story from KXLY. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to the call of a head-on collision at North Argonne Road and East Bigelow Gulch in Spokane. Once on the scene, they determined that the woman was heading south on Argonne in her 2017 Chevrolet Cruze when she crossed the centerline and collided head on with the man’s 2019 Dodge Ram as he was heading north on Bigelow Gulch Road. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was transported to a local hospital with severe (but not life-threatening) injuries.

SCSO investigators say both drivers were wearing seatbelts, but believe that the woman was either speeding or was distracted at the time of the collision. This accident is still under investigation, and closed both roads for several hours on Friday evening.

What are Some Common Injuries in Head-On Collisions?

Most people understand that a head-on collision is more serious than others, and it’s not hard to see why: whenever there’s this type of collision, it often happens at high speed and impacts a very vulnerable part of the body, specifically the head, face, neck, and chest. This is what makes these types of collisions more damaging in terms of injuries. Every accident is unique, but usually, you can expect to face the following types of injuries:

  • Brain injuries
  • Broken bones in the face and skull
  • Whiplash
  • Blunt force trauma to the chest
  • Neck injuries and paralysis

Given the severity of these injuries, it can make next steps difficult. Still, you have to do everything you can to get your car to safety and check yourself for any injuries. From there, call 911 to report the accident and get medical care once an ambulance arrives. If you’re able, also try to exchange information with the other person involved.

It’s these steps, and the extent of your injuries, that’s going to determine how your potential injury claim plays out. For help there, our team of Spokane car accident lawyers can guide you through the process.
