Man Killed in Car Accident on Highway 41 in Post Falls

November 22, 2024

It’s hard to think about, but any car accident you’re involved in could end up being fatal. This includes seemingly minor, rather simple situations that can happen on your daily commute in Post Falls or anywhere else. Something as simple as running a stop sign or red light can lead to serious consequences, and as a recent story from Fox 28 shows, fatal injuries.

A 56-year-old man died from the injuries he sustained in a car accident at the intersection of Highway 41 and West Prairie Avenue in Post Falls on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. According to the Idaho State Police (ISP), the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. when a 75-year-old man ran a red light while traveling north along Highway 41, where he collided with the car driven by the 56-year-old man. ISP says that the 75-year-old man was wearing his seatbelt and suffered minor injuries, while the 56-year-old man was also wearing a seatbelt and was taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the ISP, but the area was closed off for nearly two hours while they investigated the scene on Tuesday night. The road has since been reopened, and there have been no charges issued as of yet.

What Are Your Legal Options After a Car Accident in Idaho?

No matter what kind of car accident you’re in or what the cause is, you could be facing pretty serious–even fatal–injuries. Your losses can quickly add up. At the very least, you’re looking at medical bills and repair costs for your car.

In Idaho, you have the ability to address these losses by filing an injury claim for “damages.” This can happen through an insurance claim outside of court or a personal injury lawsuit in court. The idea is to put together a strong claim to recover these damages. The stronger your claim is, the more you can recover. You do this by getting quick medical care, reporting the accident to police, and gathering information and evidence at the scene. This helps you recover things like:

  • Medical expenses and ongoing care needs
  • Lost income from missed work or loss of earning potential if you can’t work anymore
  • Repair or replacement costs for your car
  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional distress
  • Reduced quality of life
  • Wrongful death expenses, which cover things like funeral or burial costs

Like any claim, you generally have two years from the date of the accident to file your claim, so you have to act quickly. That’s why you need to reach out to our team of Idaho car accident lawyers. We can help you with the next steps and protect your claim.
