Four Injured in Three Car Head-on Collision on State Route 27 in Spokane Valley

October 7, 2024

There’s a number of different types of car accidents that can happen to you, whether it’s in busier areas or less populated spots in Spokane Valley. With less cars, you might think that accidents won’t be as bad. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case, as a story from KREM demonstrates.

Four people were injured, three seriously, when a car crossed the centerline on State Route 27 and South Darknell Road, colliding head-on with two other vehicles in the other lane. Spokane County Fire District 8 (SCFD) responded to the scene, where they had to remove two from their vehicles. LifeFlight helicopters also responded to the scene to transport those in critical condition to local hospitals for care.

At least three people involved were in critical condition, according to SCFD. One other passenger suffered minor injuries. The driver of the car that crossed the centerline was charged with vehicular assault.

The accident scene blocked SR 27 for several hours while officials investigated.

What Damages Can You Recover in a Head-on Collision Claim?

Accidents like the one above show just how devastating a head-on collision can be. If you’re unfortunately involved in one of these accidents, your first step should be to get proper medical care. Documenting your injuries is important for any insurance claim or lawsuit you might file. Our team at CCD Law is here to help you understand your rights and guide you through the claims process, but the overall purpose is to recover “damages” from the person responsible. This usually includes things like:

  • Medical expenses and ongoing care needs
  • Lost income or loss of earning potential if you’re permanently injured and can’t work
  • Repair/replacement costs for your car and any other property
  • Costs relating to any physical pain, mental anguish, and emotional distress you go through
  • Costs for any reduced quality of life or companionship
  • Funeral and burial expenses if your injuries are fatal

Even though a head-on collision seems pretty clear in terms of liability, getting these damages depends on the evidence you provide. Also, Washington sets a deadline of three years from the date of the accident to file a claim. If you miss this deadline, you may lose your chance to recover any damages, no matter how strong your claim is.

More to the point, recovering from serious injuries after a head-on collision can take time. Having our Spokane Valley car accident lawyers at CCD Law on your side can make a significant difference in your recovery process.
