Woman Killed, Four Others Injured in Head-on Collision on Highway 195 in Colfax

September 2, 2025

When there’s a head-on collision, it’s almost always serious. And while there’s a lot of different causes to these kinds of collisions, they don’t always happen by accident. Sometimes, they happen when somebody tries to unsafely pass another car–like a recent collision in Colfax, according to a story from KHQ.

A 67-year-old woman was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision on Highway 195 in Colfax on Friday, August 29, 2025. According to a release from the Washington State Patrol, deputies responded to the scene of the accident around 7:00 p.m. Their investigation found that a Subaru Outback in the southbound lane of 195 collided head-on with a Honda Accord that was being driven north by the 67-year-old woman. WSP says that they believe the driver Outback, which had three passengers, tried to make an unsafe pass.

The woman in the Accord was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and passengers in the Outback were injured and had to be airlifted to the hospital for treatment. Charges are currently pending against the driver of the Outback.

What Information Can Help a Claim After a Fatal Head-on Collision?

It’s hard to think about, but stories like the one above show just how damaging a typical head-on collision can be. And it’s even harder when you lose a loved one. But even in that tragic of a situation, there’s certain information that can help you and your family file a strong claim, like:

  • Income records – Pay stubs or tax returns can paint a picture of the financial support your loved one brought to the household.
  • Future earning potential – Expert estimates can help show what your loved one would have earned over time, making sure the long-term loss isn’t overlooked.
  • Medical bills – If there were any medical costs after the accident, those bills can be included so your family isn’t left carrying them.
  • Funeral expenses – Receipts for the funeral or burial arrangements show the immediate costs you’ve had to take on.
  • Proof of your relationship – Photos, cards, or keepsakes help illustrate the bond you shared and the companionship that’s been taken away.
  • Statements from family and friends – Descriptions of the care, love, and guidance your loved one gave every day can capture the personal side of the loss.
  • Official reports – Police reports, witness accounts, or accident reconstructions provide an outside record of what happened.
  • Evidence of negligence – Things like a traffic citation, a defective car part, or even an unsafe road can help show that the accident wasn’t just a tragic event—it was preventable.

Gathering all of this may feel overwhelming when you’re grieving, and that’s completely understandable. But this information can help make sure the full impact of your loss is recognized. And you don’t have to collect it all alone—there are people who can step in and help your family through the process.
