Hit-And-Run Tragically Kills Pedestrian in Liberty Lake

October 26, 2018

On October 18, 2018, one pedestrian lost her life in a hit-and-run in Liberty Lake.

According to KXLY4 News, this crash happened between Country Vista Drive and Mission Avenue in the early morning hours. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered the pedestrian lying on the crosswalk.

Although first-responders transported the crash victim to a local hospital, she was soon pronounced dead from her injuries.

A driver later confessed to this terrible crash and claims that they had frost on their windshield and didn’t notice the pedestrian. That driver has been charged with vehicular homicide.

What is Vehicular Homicide?

According to RCW 46.61.520, Washington State drivers may be charged with this Class A Felony when the driver was operating a motor vehicle and the death of another person is the proximate result of the driver driving under the influence, in a reckless manner, or with the disregard for the safety of others.

After a Hit-And-Run

Civil suits are completely different than criminal charges.

When a loved one is killed in a hit and run crash and the driver is known, family members left behind may be able to file a wrongful death case. While it’s generally the last thing on your mind, it’s always a good idea to contact an attorney as soon as possible. That’s because insurers are likely already working against you. They do not like wrongful death cases.

If you were injured in a hit and run crash, you may be able to seek compensation from you own insurance company if you have uninsured motorist coverage. If the driver is located, you may be able to file a claim against them as well. Hopefully they have more than the mandatory minimum liability insurance, too.
