Careless drivers around Kootenai County can make mistakes that put them in the direct path of other vehicles. These dangerous errors happen almost daily, but it’s the accidents caused by a driver who purposely chooses to endanger lives that can be the most difficult to understand.

A driver who gets behind the wheel while impaired by drugs or alcohol puts every other person on the road at risk of a devastating accident. Idaho emergency crews see the devastating results of these choices every year in our state. The CDC found that over a decade, 712 people were killed across Idaho in crashes involving drunk drivers.

These frustrating accidents can result in serious injuries and even claim lives, all in incidents that can be prevented.

Help for DUI Accident Victims in Kootenai County

Victims and their families can be devastated by reckless drivers who get behind the wheel while their focus is impaired by a drug or by alcohol. Finding justice for a victim can seem like an impossible goal after a tragic collision.

Victims or their family members are allowed to file a claim for damages against DUI drivers and their insurance companies to ask for support during recovery. Victims and their loved ones shouldn’t be on the hook for extreme medical costs and the monthly bills that go unpaid as an injured person misses work. These financial burdens should be the responsibility of the insurance provider and every cost associated with the accident should be covered.

DUI drivers will face a judge over their criminal charges, but that won’t delay the rights of victims. Those hurt or a family member acting on their behalf can bring a civil claim forward that is dealt with separately from the criminal trial. Victims can seek to gain compensation for every physical, emotional, and financial hardship they’ve suffered.
