Pedestrian Accidents On The South Hill Of Spokane

January 12, 2021

Early morning low-light levels in cloudy, wet weather can provide dangerous conditions for pedestrians just trying to make their way across Spokane. Distracted drivers can only be half paying attention to the road when conditions should be encouraging them to be focused on sidewalks and crosswalks where a defenseless pedestrian could be traveling.

In preliminary data from the State DOT (WashDOT), 2020 was a particularly dangerous year for pedestrians across Washington. Despite the potentially lower numbers of accident cases reported (2,292) the year still saw a tragic 123 deaths and 401 victims seriously injured. The fatality rate proved to be the highest of the last three years.

A terrible mistake by a driver not taking an extra look or making a turn without checking for someone crossing a street can have devastating consequences for an unprotected pedestrian.

Finding Assistance for Spokane Pedestrian Accident Victims

Careless drivers may not intend to hurt anyone, but that doesn’t mean they can pay a fine or say they’re sorry and be free of their mistake. A driver’s insurance should be called upon for every expense an injured victim sees while they work towards getting back to a normal life.

Insurance companies can sometimes be the biggest obstacle for suffering victims. Insurance adjusters may know their policyholder was in the wrong, but still try to offer you much less than you need to get back on your feet physically and financially. To make sure every hardship you’ve had to manage since the accident isn’t ignored, you can file a claim for damages against the insurance firm.

Things like medical invoices you’ve seen to this point and any care recommended in the years to come can all be part of compensation from a civil lawsuit against the insurance company. Your lost hours at your place of employment and missed paychecks are also a monumental loss you’ve likely endured and that can be part of an award. The physical and emotional anguish you’ve had to cope with can also be considered.
