Pedestrian Accidents Involving Hit-And-Run Drivers In Spokane Valley

January 25, 2021

Pedestrians in Spokane Valley face hazards every day on busy roads and across up to six and seven lanes of traffic. Crosswalks provide no guarantee of a defenseless walker’s safety when inattentive drivers are often skipping important visual checks to spot anyone else using the road.

As more drivers proceed while distracted and choose to drive recklessly, the dangers for pedestrians across the nation are on the rise. The Verge found that 2019 was the deadliest year for people on foot since 1990. 2019 saw 6,283 tragic pedestrian deaths over a 12-month span which was an increase of 3.4 percent from the previous year.

Pedestrian Hit and Dragged by Truck in Spokane Valley

A woman was sent to the hospital after being tragically struck by a truck in Spokane Valley Friday morning. KXLY-TV reports the accident happened around 9:45 p.m. on North Sullivan Road near the UPS Store on January 22, 2021.

Sheriff’s Deputies say a work truck struck and dragged the victim. The woman was taken to the hospital with serious and possibly life-threatening injuries.

The driver responsible for the accident left the scene. Deputies were able to locate the suspected driver’s truck with help from a witness’ description. The driver reportedly told investigators that he did not realize he’d hit someone and that his work truck was having mechanical issues.

The investigation into the accident continues. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the Spokane Valley Police Department.

Support for Spokane Valley Pedestrian Accident Victims

Pedestrians travel the city without the protection vehicle occupants have from metal walls, seatbelts, and airbags. Pedestrians can follow every traffic law, but they must still trust that drivers are paying attention and obeying traffic lights and right of ways. When this basic care isn’t offered by drivers accidents can happen and the injuries can be serious.

A victim will see hospital bills from their stay and fees from doctors, surgeons, and therapists start to accumulate and may have no hope of paying them. Victims can also be missing valuable time at work making money even tighter. In these tough circumstances, the injured or their families are allowed to file a claim for damages against at-fault drivers and their insurance companies.

Compensation can be earned to help with medical costs now and in the coming months. With cases that involve a driver who is on the road representing a company, the road to compensation can be a bit more complex. The driver’s insurance may apply to your case, but the company’s insurance covering the driver may also need to be called upon to support you. An attorney working with you can determine just what direction to take your case to earn maximum compensation.
