Motorcyclist Injured After Collision on North River Drive in Spokane

June 11, 2024

When you’re riding your motorcycle in Spokane, you have a lot to worry about. Chief among these is vehicles that may or may not see you when they turn. Typically, accidents happen when a driver isn’t paying attention, but sometimes there are other conditions that cause them to not be able to see you. One such example happened on Friday, June 7, 2024 per a story from KXLY.

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), a motorcyclist was injured when a car turned into them near the Centennial Hotel on North River Drive. Police say the driver’s vision was obstructed by the sun, causing them to not see the oncoming motorcycle as they attempted to turn into the hotel parking lot.

The driver was not injured and cooperated with investigators, while the motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with injuries.

What Should You Do If You’re in a Motorcycle Accident in Spokane?

It’s unfortunate that you’re so vulnerable to injuries in a motorcycle accident, even if you wear a helmet and other safety gear. Worse, you can only account for your own actions while riding. Being hit by a vehicle is usually the reason that a motorcycle accident happens, even in cases like the story above when there’s factors beyond everyone’s control. At that point, you have to respond in the right way. So, if you’re in a motorcycle accident, here’s what you should do:

  • Call 911 for an ambulance – Your health should always be your first priority. Check yourself for injuries and move to a safe location. Call 911 so an ambulance can respond and provide immediate medical attention to evaluate your injuries and begin the recovery process.
  • Gather information – Ideally, the other driver will stay to exchange contact and insurance details. If possible, do this. If the driver flees, report the hit-and-run to the police.
  • Call the police – Notify the SPD or the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office about the accident so they can respond and document the scene. Their report is vital for your insurance claim, even if it’s not admissible as court evidence.
  • Start collecting evidence – If you can, gather evidence at the scene. Use your phone to take photos or videos. This evidence is going to be crucial for your potential claim.

While many motorcycle accidents result in severe damage, you may not always need legal assistance, especially if your injuries are minor or the collision was slight.
