Lime Scooter Hit and Run Accidents in Spokane

October 8, 2020

Electric scooters are supposed to be a safe and modern way to get around town, but the risks of injury will always be present when distracted motorists are rushing by.

CNBC reported on a study done on the booming rideshare industry and found that head injuries made up 46% of e-scooter injuries. They also found that a frightening 18% of all scooter accidents involved a vehicle.

Careless drivers who have failed to spot bicyclists and pedestrians for years and caused collisions are now failing to make proper checks of their mirrors and blind spots for anyone who may be on a scooter. Accidents result from these lapses in concentration and the results can be devastating for riders.

Lime Scooter Hit-And-Run Accident in Spokane

A person on a Lime electric scooter was struck by a hit-and-run driver in North Spokane Wednesday morning.  KREM-TV reported the accident happened on Wabash Avenue on October 7, 2020.

The victim was hit while traveling west and crossing the intersection at Nevada Street. The victim suffered a life-threatening injury and was taken to the hospital. The driver responsible drove away.

Spokane police say the suspect’s vehicle was described as a white, 2008-2011 Subaru Impreza sedan. Investigators have surveillance video of the crash from a nearby home and officers are searching for the driver. They are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call the police department.

Help for Victims of Spokane Scooter Accidents

After a devastating scooter accident, a victim should be left to heal and concentrate on recovery. Unfortunately, hospital bills and missed time from work can immediately start to damage the victim emotionally and financially. This burden comes from a tragedy that was someone else’s fault and yet the victim may still have to face the damages alone.

The situation is especially tough for victims and their families when a driver fled the scene and didn’t bother to face the consequences of his or her actions. Justice may be hard to find in these situations.

If the driver responsible is never located, a victim can still file a claim to get help with expenses if he or she has auto insurance or if they’re covered by a close family member’s policy. The claim would be filed against the uninsured/underinsured coverage portion of the policy.

If the hit-and-run driver is eventually found and arrested then a civil lawsuit can be filed against his or her insurance. This claim for damages could recover money for the victim’s medical expenses and lost paychecks at work. Compensation could be included for any medical care needed in the future and factor in any emotional damage the victim has endured.
