DUI Suspected in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on US-2 in Spokane

March 14, 2024

Pedestrians in Spokane have to be alert at all times, regardless of where they are. While this usually revolves around intersections and crosswalks, this remains true even on larger roadways like US-2.

A pedestrian was killed in Spokane during an early morning accident along US-2, according to a story from KHQ. Washington State Patrol (WSP) and the Spokane Police Department (SPD) responded to the call around 3:00 a.m., which closed the highway from Spotted Road to Flint Road.

Investigators say the pedestrian, a woman, was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by two different vehicles. Both vehicles fled the scene, but were later located by police and charged with felony hit and run. One driver was additionally charged with suspicion of driving under the influence and with vehicular homicide.

Injuries and Damages in a Pedestrian Accident

As a pedestrian, it’s not complicated to see why an accident with a vehicle can be so damaging. There’s no protection against a larger, heavier vehicle moving at speed, so collisions are particularly harmful to you. Adding to the challenge, these accidents frequently happen during the night or early morning hours, making access to medical assistance more difficult. If you find yourself facing this type of accident, you can expect to have to deal with:

  • Fractures or broken bones

  • Torn ligaments and dislocations
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Cuts or bruises
  • Burns
  • Paralysis
  • Amputations

Like all accidents, these injuries require medical care and expensive rehab. Severe injuries often mean ongoing medical needs, leading to significant financial burdens that mean needing to file an injury claim. It’s here that our Spokane pedestrian accident lawyers can help by:
