Crash In Rathdrum Kills One Motorcyclist

July 25, 2018

A crash involving a car and a motorcycle killed one motorcyclist in Rathdrum on July 22, 2018.

According to KHQ-Q6, this crash happened at 2:45PM on Highway 53 near Ramsey Road. According to the article, when a car driver turned northbound, he collided with a motorcyclist headed west.

Tragically, when first-responders arrived on the scene, they soon pronounced the motorcyclist dead from his injuries.

Look Twice, Save a Life

Unfortunately, many times when we represent motorcyclists, the other driver claims they did not notice the motorcycle coming. This is especially true when a car takes a left turn in to or in front of a motorcycle.

When on the road, please look for motorcycles. Look twice, and look specifically for motorcycles.

Due to the lack of protection inherent in a motorcycle’s design, motorcyclists are more likely to die or be seriously injured than car drivers in collisions. The US government estimates that motorcyclists are almost 30 percent more likely to die in a crash compared with drivers in enclosed vehicles.

In the 1970s, motorcyclists accounted for only 7 percent of total traffic deaths. Today, motorcyclist fatalities represent around 13 percent of total motor vehicle deaths in the USA. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) figures show about 4,500 American motorcyclists die in collisions every year.
