If a driver from another country did not have out of country coverage, you may be able to seek compensation from your own insurer, although you should be prepared before speaking with them in case they turn into your adversary. Insurers do not like to pay people what they’re owed, especially when someone sustains serious injuries, even if you have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage.

Where Most Head-On Collisions Happen

Head-on collisions are amongst the most deadly traffic accidents a driver could get involved in. Even with the best safety technology and airbags, people who are fortunate enough to survive head-on collisions often face serious injuries.

Recent survey data from SmartMotorist.com shows that 63 percent of all head-on collisions happen when the victim is driving straight. Usually the negligent driver involved in a head-on collision swerves across the center line and crashes into the oncoming vehicle. These collisions could be due to a number of factors, but the most common ones include distracted driving, driver fatigue, and DUI.

Another common place for head-on collisions is in an area with a lot of turns. In fact, SmartMotorist.com found that 20 percent of head-on collisions were due to negligent drivers speeding around a turn and losing control of their vehicle.
